Alex Consani & Her Rise in Fashion

Hi my readers! I'm so excited to release this weeks' article on fashion and beauty. This article is going to be all about Alex Consani and her rise in fashion and media!

Alex Consani is a transgender model and influencer, who made headway in 2020 for her quirky personality and funny videos. As someone who's a huge fan of her personality and modeling, I had to jump on the opportunity to write about her.

Consani Modeling as a Child

She was born on July 23, 2003 in California and began wearing feminine clothing when she was four and decided on the name Alex when she turned eight. In 2015 she began her modeling career after her mother found an advertisement on Facebook called, "Slay Model Management" which is an LA based modeling agency made up of all transgender models. In an interview with Vox, Alex describes it as a "scary, dingy Facebook ad for some modeling agency". However, she became the youngest transgender model at the time, being only 12 years old. In 2016 a profile on her in Cosmopolitan Germany gained traction, and fast forward to 2019 Consani had signed with IMG Models and moved to New York City at 16.

This is the turning point of Consani's career, and as the pandemic hit in 2020 she took to TikTok under the username "captincroook" to begin making absurd comedic videos. Consani states in the same interview that she has a "Play-Doh face" and she's very expressive, allowing her to post content that was more fun and genuine. She wanted to make content that didn't seem so curated and polished, which is what we see by a lot on social media now. Not expecting anything of it, she gained more than 700,000 followers by 2022.

In the same year she began attending Pace University and made her runway debut for Tom Ford. These casual videos that Consani only made for fun had helped propel her popularity and modeling career, as she walked for Versace and Alexander McQueen and appeared in GLAAD's 20 Under 20 List, which honors outstanding young LGBTQ changemakers. By 2023, she had more than 1.4 million followers on TikTok and Vogue had named her a standout model for the Spring/Summer of 2023.

One of her most popular videos and also one of my personal favorites, is a TikTok of her shaking a glass of water and lip-syncing to an audio, this blew up online and many Gen-Z users were quick to recreate the same video. I think it's funny reflecting on these videos because Gen-Z comedy is so specific and niche that it's difficult to explain the humor to any other generation, sometimes I can't even pinpoint it. However, her TikTok's do numbers, as most of the videos on her page get at least 200K likes. Below are some of her most popular videos.

Humor and wit aside, Consani is incredibly successful and managed to rise to popularity very quickly at a young age. She speaks out about the importance on hearing transgender voices and representation in media. Stating that we shouldn't view people only by their gender identity and solely strip them down to that.

By 2024, she amassed over two million followers on TikTok and appeared in Charlie XCX's music video for "360" from the highly popular "Brat" album. She's been deemed "Fashion's New It Girl" by Alyssa Morin of E! News and was included in the Forbes Top Creators Fashion 50 List in 2023.

Personally speaking, I love watching her rise to stardom and videos on TikTok. I find her quirkiness and humor refreshing in a time where we see so much curated perfect content and superficiality in social media. I'm really excited to see where she advances in her modeling career and all the opportunities that find her. What do you guys thing about her?
